The Daily Mail have claimed that Pepe Reina may well be on his way out of Liverpool and back to Serie A and we in the Football Transfer Tavern cannot help but think this is a good thing.
The Spanish goalkeeper clearly has no future under Brendan Rodgers at Anfield and it seemed that Napoli were willing to buy him for the £4 million asking price and then experienced a stumbling block with Reina’s wages, which are not exactly nominal.
Reina is asking for around £100,000 per week and that kind of money has also put off AC Milan who were keen on the stopper but are concerned over the wage demands and their ability to afford them.
Money is tight in Serie A at the minute and all clubs are tightening their belts, including AC Milan.
By agreeing to pay out such huge wages, they would certainly be going against the policy set out at the beginning of the summer.
As one of our punters notes, Reina may well have to lower his wage demands; well that or look to move to Russia!
Liverpool fans. Is there any future for Reina at the club? Will anyone even want to pay so much money for him? Let us know your thoughts below.
