Mail Online have information regarding Liverpool’s latest transfer target today.
The paper reports that Reds scouts were watching Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic during Sevilla’s recent victory over Villarreal and a bid could be placed when the transfer window opens next month.
The Croatia international has long been a target for English clubs, notably Everton, Tottenham and West Browmich Albion, and his goalscoring exploits keep attracting the scouts.
It’s not the first time that the Reds have been rumoured to be looking at the 25-year-old Croatian international, with a move touted strongly in the summer, but today’s reports suggest that Rodgers could be ready to confirm his interest in the attacking midfielder.
Despite the summer exodus at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, which saw star men Jesus Navas, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Gary Medel and Alvaro Negredo all departing, Rakitic remained with the La Liga club and has since become a key player in Unai Emery’s side, contributing with five assists and seven league goals already this season to propel his side to seventh.
This fine early season form has reportedly encouraged Liverpool to consider the former Schalke man again as Rodgers tries to add to his side when when the transfer window opens next month.
Liverpool’s main priority, however, remains a new left back and a striker, unless they sell in other positions such as right back and centre back.
