Liverpool still hopeful of hijacking deal for La Liga bound star

Sunderland v Burnley - Barclays Premier League

Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have not been expecting any deadline day arrivals at Anfield but the Daily Mail reckons Brendan Rodgers is still keen to hijack Real Sociedad’s move for Burnley striker Danny Ings.

The 22-year-old emerged as a transfer target for the Reds on Thursday evening but reports today suggested the striker had agreed a pre-contract agreement with David Moyes at Real Sociedad.

Burnley have also issued a statement saying Ings will be staying put to help the club in their pursuit of Premier League survival but our landlord is amongst those who reckons there could be a further twist before the 11pm deadline.

Ings is set to see his contract expire in June and Premier League rules mean the Reds would have to pay the Clarets compensation of £3 million as the player is still under the age of 23.

Real Sociedad would only have to pay £300,000 which means they have been able to offer the England Under-21 star a contract worth £60,000-a-week.

Brendan Rodgers does not want to miss out however and will be working to complete a deal ahead of Sociedad before the close of the transfer window for a forward who has fired seven Premier League goals this season.
