Liverpool still in the race to land Chelsea signing?

salahMetro have Chelsea and Liverpool fans willing to abandon all their drinks and games of pool here in the Football Transfer Tavern.

They move over to the bar and find out exactly what our landlord thinks Jose Mourinho’s latest presser is all about.

The Chelsea manager agreed with one of his ‘best friends’ in football, Brendan Rodgers, who earlier claimed that the transfer of Mohamed Salah is not quite a done deal.

The Special One, who knows all about stealing players from under the noses of rival clubs, noted that: “Maybe he’s [Rodgers] right, I don’t know what Liverpool bid before us. All I know is we went direct to Basel, they said yes, so we reached an agreement.”

Mourinho also noted that he was not expecting the departure of Juan Mata – something our fans in the tavern highly doubt if we are being honest.

“It was a surprise for us that Juan [Mata] was leaving, we were not prepared to make a bid or to try to bring a player to replace Juan in the squad, so everything happened very fast.

“We had to work on that and see which options could be good options for us and finally we decided to try for Salah,” he added.

“We started from zero because we had no contact with the club [Basel] or the player.

“The first step was an agreement with the club so that situation is done, everything is signed and done, subject to the medical which we haven’t had yet and subject to the player’s desire to join us or not.

“Now we know he’s very happy to come, but we have to finalise or not.”

Punters still believe Chelsea will manage to get the Salah deal over the line and having watched the Egyptian star light up this year’s Champions League group stages, neutrals can’t wait to see the Basel star strut his stuff in the Premier League.

Is it simply a matter of hours before Salah is being presented to the world with the Blue shirt? Let us know your thoughts below.
