Liverpool supporters have been reasonably satisfied in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side draw 1-1 with Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday, although it was a result which saw them slip out of the division’s top four.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Blues off the back of letting slip a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek, yet looked set to get back to winning ways at the weekend as former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah gave them the lead midway through the second half. Yet they were unable to see the game out as Willian’s floated effort sailed over the head of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet five minutes from time, thus securing a point for Antonio Conte’s side, and indeed instigating Liverpool’s fall to sixth place following Arsenal’s win at Burnley on Sunday.
Thus, there have been mixed emotions among our resident Liverpudlians this week, although their mood is unlikely to be improved by a recent report from Bild (via The Daily Express), which outlines intriguing and perhaps frustrating information regarding the future of Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 28-year-old made the move to the Bundesliga outfit back in 2013 and has since then been an absolute revelation, having netted a staggering 137 goals in just 208 appearances for the club, with last term his most prolific having scored 40 goals in just 46 games for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
However, the future of the Gabon international has been subject of speculation for a while now, with Liverpool reportedly interested in landing him in a bid to reunite the forward with former manager Klopp, although the Reds look to have suffered a significant blow as Aubameyang’s brother has rubbished talk of a move away for the 28-year-old.
He said: ‘The thing is over now. He just wants to win and score many goals.
‘He is still completely in Dortmund with his head.’
These comments are to strike a huge blow in Klopp’s transfer plans for January, with it looking likely that Aubameyang will remain at Dortmund beyond the deadline.
Landlord’s verdict: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has proven to be one of the best forwards in world football in the last four years or so, with his tally of 137 goals in just 208 games for Borussia Dortmund a quite staggering record.
However, there have been murmurs that the 28-year-old is discontent at the German club, and his relationship with the supporters reportedly hasn’t improved much after he was sent off in their 4-4 draw with Schalke on Saturday, despite netting one and setting up two others.
Liverpool have reportedly been keen on a move for the Gabon international for a while now, yet they may have suffered a blow as Aubameyang’s brother has played down speculation, suggesting that he is happy at Dortmund.
Thus, it doesn’t appear as though manager Jurgen Klopp will be reuniting with the forward after all.
