The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side will be vastly improved under their new manager Sam Allardyce.
Everton have begun the season in relatively uninspiring form, but now that their managerial situation has been clarified following weeks of speculation, the club should be able to move onwards and upwards throughout the season. One of Everton’s main problems this year has been their inability to score goals on a regular basis. Despite a huge spending spree orchestrated by former manager Ronald Koeman in the summer, Everton have yet to replace their former talisman Romelu Lukaku.
The Toffees had only managed to find the net on 13 occasions in their opening 13 fixtures of the Premier League season prior to the announcement of Allardyce’s appointment.
With that in mind, it seems that Big Sam has set his sights on landing a proven goalscorer in the January window, as The Mirror believe Everton are lining up a dramatic £60 million move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The signing of Aubameyang would undoubtedly be one of the most sensational marque signings in recent years, but the Gabon international is likely to favour a move to Everton’s Merseyside rivals if he decides to leave Dortmund in the near future.
Liverpool have also been linked with the Bundesliga’s second top goal-scorer in recent weeks, and their participation in Champions League football would undoubtedly give them a huge advantage in the Merseyside battle to secure his signature.
Although he is not exactly old at just 28 years of age, he will be conscious of playing at the highest level of football throughout the remaining years of his career.
Everton fans can dream of securing a massive signing for the club all they like, but without Champions League football, those dreams will never materialise for The Toffees.
