Liverpool fans are smiling here in the Football Transfer Tavern as BBC Sport confirm that the rumoured move for Adam Lallana has gone through.
The former Southampton player has cost Brendan Rodgers and the Reds £25 million and we think that is an awful lot of money for the England international.
One party that will be pleased is Southampton, who have netted rather a lot of money in the past week, although they will have to spend a fair bit on rebuilding their squad now!
As our Reds fans celebrate over a pint or three, they claim that Lallana now has a hefty price tag to live up to, but we think that the England international will be able to succeed where Stewart Downing couldn’t.
Rodgers had been looking for a player who is able to slot into the middle of the park, and knows that a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard had to be sourced. Whether Lallana will take up a central attacking berth remains to be seen however.
Twenty-six-year-old Lallana was thrilled with his move to Anfield and claimed: “Hopefully I can settle in quickly and I will give it my best throughout the whole time I’m here.
“I hope I can add something to the team and hopefully we can win trophies while I’m here, because that’s why I’m here – for success.”
Lallana is the third major signing at Anfield this summer following the arrivals of his former team-mate at Southampton Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can for £4 million and £9.75 million respectively.
Liverpool fans. Come on, be honest;did you pay over the odds to lure Adam Lallana to Anfield? Let us know your thoughts below.
