There is major interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as it is claimed by the Daily Mail that Shakhtar’s Donetsk’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan has gone AWOL in order to force through a summer move to Liverpool.
It had been thought that the Arrmenian international was one of the top targets on Brendan Rodgers’ summer transfer wishlist and as one of our punters quips, we all thought that he was on his way to Anfield.
Then came the news that Shakatar Donetsk were unwilling to let the player leave – meaning we thought the Reds could well miss out on the player altogether.
This was of course failing to take into account how much the 24-year-old actually wants to join the Reds. Shakhtar themselves noted to Russian paper Sportsdaily that: “Mkhitaryan did not come to the training session yesterday but he had to – we do not know why.
“If he does not join the team in the coming days he will be fined.
“Concerning Mkhitaryan’s behaviour I know that he does not have any problems with his team-mates and coaches and we have not heard from him about his intention to leave Shakhtar.
“All the questions about Mkhitaryan’s behaviour should be addressed to him. I am certain that the negotiations between them (Mkhitaryan and Liverpool) is just rumour.
“No offer for Mkhitaryan has been made at Shakhtar.”
Will Mkhitaryan earn his dream move to Liverpool this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
