There’s a big story breaking in the Football Transfer Tavern today with Mirror Football reporting that summer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to fly into England to undertake a medical with Liverpool after a fee was agreed for the attacking midfielder.
It appears that the Reds have fought off competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus to be on the verge of signing the Shakhtar Donetsk man with a £23 million deal expected to be completed before the end of the week.
The Armenian international shone for the Ukraine-based side during the past season netting 25 times from central midfield and impressing during the side’s Champions League run which attracted interest from across Europe.
However reports indicate that he will join Liverpool for the new season with manager Brendan Rodgers willing to commit most of his summer transfer budget towards landing Mkhitaryan.
It was yesterday confirmed by West Ham United that Andy Carroll would be joining the Upton Park side subject to passing a intensive medical tomorrow after the two sides agreed a £15.5 million transfer and Rodgers will now be able to fund Mkhitaryan deal with the money raised from Carroll’s sale.
