The race for the Premier League title is still firmly on! Liverpool will have the perfect opportunity to put themselves back in the driving seat when they take on Huddersfield Town on Friday night.
Looking at the current standings, Jurgen Klopp’s side should ease past the Terriers, however, football has the ability to throw up surprises and the Reds can not take the game too lightly. And, with some concerning news about one of their key men, they could be in for a tough evening at Anfield.
What’s the News?
Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp revealed that Fabinho is a doubt for the upcoming clash.
The Brazilian suffered a blow to the head minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute in their match against Cardiff City last weekend and his availability remains questionable, as does Adam Lallana (muscle injury) and Dejan Lovren (illness).
“All a bit questionable, we don’t know exactly in the moment. We will have to see today,” he said, before adding: “We gave them all a proper rest. Dejan trained yesterday so that’s OK probably and the other two we will see.”
Fabinho may have had a slow start to life at Liverpool following his £43.7million move from AS Monaco in the summer, however, he has certainly started to come into his element and has become a crucial member of the squad.
The Brazilian has started to dominate the midfield position for the Reds and looks to have made the position his own as he helps the Anfield outfit to lift a possible double. He has also been used in defence to fill in when Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were both unavailable and looked to do a solid job.
His ability to play the ball from deep areas in the pitch works extremely well for Liverpool, as it allows his midfield team-mates to get further forward whilst he has the defensive capabilities to sniff out any opposition attacks.
Although Klopp’s side should be winning the match against Huddersfield rather comfortably, they can not take the game too lightly with everything riding on it and having Fabinho in the middle of the park would have eased any potential problems the Terriers may provide them with.
