The IB Times have a sensational claim here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Real Madrid are thought to be ready to offer £20 million plus forward Gonzalo Higuain for Luis Suarez.
Not only is that news something of a double blow for Arsene Wenger who was initially chasing Pipita then turning his attentions to Suarez but it is also rather worrying for Liverpool fans.
Real Madrid can of course offer what Arsenal may not be able to – the chance to win titles and can certainly offer the chance to play in the Champions League.
Given that Real Madrid are still after a marquee signing this season, Florentino Perez is ready to go all out.
The offer of Pipita plus cash would mean that Real Madrid are essentially offering a £60 million deal to Liverpool given that they now value the Argentine forward at £40 million.
Another option for Carlo Ancelotti’s men would of course be to offer Alvaro Morata who is a target of Brendan Rodgers and the Reds have been linked with a £6 million swoop in recent days.
Ideally Liverpool would like to keep Suarez, but as they showed with former star man Fernando Torres, they are willing to sell if the price is right and Florentino Perez is determined to make sure it is to him. Quite what Wenger will now do of course remains to be seen.
