Liverpool to continue chasing top targets despite Europa League defeat

kloppppeLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left feeling gloom this morning after their Europa League final defeat to Sevilla ensured they’d spend another season absent from the Champions League.

The Spanish side’s second-half turnaround ensured a glum finish to Liverpool’s season, with the Reds losing two finals during the course of the campaign since Jurgen Klopp took charge in October.

However, Klopp himself has stated the situation regarding transfers has not changed as he continues to chase top-targets, including Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze, as Metro quote him as saying:

‘Since I said what I’d do if a player said to me he would only come if we have Champions League (put the phone down), no player has said it to me. Hopefully we will never talk about the money around signings.’

‘Not because it’s not a big number or something but because if we take a player it’s because we believe he fits what we need, not because he’s expensive or he’s cheap. Our owners are completely behind that and it’s really cool. Nobody has said to me that if we’re not in the Champions League that affects things.’

‘If you aren’t in Europe at all then maybe you need less players but that’s not something to think about now.’

Despite Klopp’s comments, our landlord does think it will effect the calibre of signings arriving at Anfield this summer and he believes Liverpool’s loss has opened the door for someone else to pip them to Gotze’s signature.

Liverpool fans, can you still land Gotze and big names despite no Champions League football? Let us know in the comments below!
