It has puzzled many as to why the team that finished second in the table are so intent on poaching players that finished 28 points behind.
But now according to Metro, Liverpool have finished raiding the south coast club and are set to sign Atletico Madrid defender Javi Manquillo.
The Reds have reportedly hijacked Arsenal’s bid for the Spanish Under-20 international star.
The Gunners had been in talks over a season-long loan deal having had talks with the club over the past fortnight.
But according to reports, the youngster was worried about the amount of game time he would receive at the Emirates Stadium following Mathieu Debuchy’s arrival and Liverpool could now make a move.
It is believed that Arsenal have already turned their attentions to Catania star Gino Peruzzi as an alternative.
The Argentine right back has played 21 times for the Serie A side since moving from Velez Sarsfield.
But he could not help stop Catania from relegation and it is thought that Peruzzi could be playing his football elsewhere next season.
