Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that they can hijack Tottenham’s transfer swoop as they hope to beat the Lilywhites to a rising star in the Championship.
The Mirror reveals that Spurs are in pursuit of Birmingham City’s young winger Demarai Gray but despite being strongly linked to the starlet, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could swoop in and snap him up.
This is due to clever work from Rodgers who last term agreed to send Reds youngster Jordon Ibe on loan to St. Andrews under a so-called ‘matching rights’ deal.
This clause now means that Liverpool have first option on landing Birmingham’s Gray and could mean Tottenham miss out on the youngster.
The 18-year-old has come on leaps and bounds this season and he has caught the attention of the top Premier League sides including Arsenal and Manchester City as well.
Crystal Palace have already had a bid of £500,000 knocked back and it is believed his price tag will rise to around £2 million now that the big clubs are monitoring him.
Spurs’ interest could now be worthless with the clause inserted by Rodgers giving Liverpool the golden opportunity to land him.
