Liverpool fans have been caught up with all the conversation surrounding Luis Suarez inside the Football Transfer Tavern of late, so it has come as a welcome relief that Jamie Sanderson of Metro has stopped by to reveal that the club are close to completing another summer signing.
Porto’s Christian Atsu has turned down a new contract in Portugal, paving the way for a ‘dream move to England’, with Liverpool reported to be his destination.
The 21-year-old has been a long-term target for the Reds, who enquired about his availability last summer only to be knocked back. Porto moved to offer the defender a new four-year deal, which has been rejected, paving the way for Liverpool to make their move.
“I spoke with Porto before coming to this decision and informed them that I will not sign a new contract,” he said.
‘The club told me what they want to do, and hopefully we can find a solution now.
“My dream is to play in England and it is very nice to see my name linked with big clubs in the Premier League. For now, I’m focused on my football, but I see my future in England.
“I hope to have some news soon.”
Liverpool hope to hold off interest from Spurs and secure the signing for a fee of around £7 million.
