Liverpool fans are given more frustrating news by the The Mirror here in Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
They are told that in order to recall Divock Origi from his loan spell at Lille, they will have to pay £5 million extra to get him back in January.
Brendan Rodgers’ desire to call him back has increased in the past few days as it emerged that Daniel Sturridge will spend even longer on the treatment table.
Not only does he need to find a replacement for the England international whilst he is out injured; they also more importantly have struggled to score.
Goals have come few and far between as Daniel Sturridge has missed nine out of their 11 league fixtures so far this season.
But despite the Reds’ trouble, it is no surprise to hear that the Ligue 1 side are determined to keep hold of their man.
And they have told Liverpool they will have to pay £5 million to release him from his season-long loan, which if paid, will go on top of the initial £10 million fee the Reds shelled out to sign him from Lille in the summer.
Liverpool will hope Lille are a little more open when they begin private talks because the French club have little to play for after a disappointing start to the Ligue 1 campaign.
Last week, Origi was quoted as saying he would like to move to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens, claiming he has become “frustrated” with Les Dogues.
Liverpool fans. If it were down to you, would you just pay the £5 million to get him back at Anfield earlier than anticipated? Let us know your thoughts below.
