Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are left stunned after the Daily Star reported that Brendan Rodgers is targeting Norwich City keeper John Ruddy as Simon Mignolet’s replacement after he was dropped for Brad Jones.
The under pressure Reds manager is targeting the Championship keeper as his ideal transfer replacement as he looks for an alternative after he lost his patience with the Belgian international.
Although he has Aussie stopper Jones in his ranks, Rodgers doesn’t see him as a long-term answer after he conceded three goals at Old Trafford at the weekend.
It is believed the Canaries will accept a bid in the region of £8 million for the once-capped England international and Liverpool are expected to line up a bid in time for January.
Former Everton stopper Ruddy is currently not part of the England set-up as he is currently behind Joe Hart, Ben Foster and Fraser Forster in the pecking order but many think that the reason behind this is partly down to the fact he is not currently performing in the English top flight.
The Reds will face stiff competition from Crystal Palace as they are also looking for goalkeeping reinforcements in January but it is expected Liverpool will have the muscle to beat the Eagles to the keeper.
Liverpool fans. Is John Ruddy a good enough transfer replacement for Mignolet or would you rather a European-based star arrived at Anfield? Let us know your thoughts below.
