Metro have raised Liverpool fans’ spirits in the Football Transfer Tavern as they revealed that Brendan Rodgers is planning an incredible £47 million triple deal.
The men on Rodgers’ January wishlist includes Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, Porto striker Jackson Martinez and Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond.
Punters recognise this would probably be Rodgers’ last chance to make his project work because if he splashes the cash in this way and still fails to finish in the top four, it would be very hard for the board to keep him on.
It is believed that Chelsea’s club legend Cech will set him back only £7 million which would be a terrific signing because punters believe that replacing Simon Mignolet is top a priority.
The out-of-favour Chelsea star will then be followed by a staggering £30 million fee for Porto’s deadly finisher Martinez who will undoubtedly be under pressure to deliver due to the circumstances and large price tag.
And then the following £10 million will be spent on England Under-21 international ace Redmond who has been tipped to become a Premier League star of the future, suiting Liverpool’s energetic style of play to boot.
This could then reignite the Reds’ season but it could also get even worse if the three players fail to hit the ground running. It wouldn’t be surprising if they did struggle because it can be tough for January signings to make an initial impact.
