Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye is once again the centre of attention in the Football Transfer Tavern.
Just yesterday we reported that Serie A leaders Roma has targeted a move for the French star in January but according to today’s speculation they will face fierce competition the Premier League.
Ben Jefferson from The Express claims that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Cabaye ahead of a possible January swoop as the Magpies brace themselves for fresh interest in their midfield maestro.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly hopeful that he can persuade the 27-year-old to make the switch to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year as he seeks to add to his current squad.
However the supposed interest from Italy could prove difficult to shake off as Cabaye’s former boss at Lille Rudi Garcia tries to bring him to the Stadio Olimpico instead.
Of course, the Magpies successfully fended off Arsenal’s interest in the summer transfer window despite the midfielder becoming unsettled regarding his future as manager Alan Pardew sought an offer in excess of £18 million.
The Magpies still insist that they don’t want the player to leave, but that stance may change if any substantial bids are received for Cabaye in the upcoming transfer window.
Reds supporters in the tavern would love to see the dynamic midfielder joining up with the squad at Anfield as they search for Champions League football once more.
Will Cabaye be on the move this January or will he stick out the season at St. James’ Park? Let us know your thoughts below.
