Liverpool to shore up their defence with Primeira Liga star?

Brendan Rodgers The Liverpool fans got to the Football Transfer Tavern really early this morning; in fact I’m not sure they even went home.

They’re all still puffy eyed and teary following last night’s capitulation at Crystal Palace and the pain on their faces is still visible to see.

Liverpool’s dodgy defending throughout the season has been the reason that they are likely to come up short in this season’s title race and that’s certainly where Brendan Rodgers will be planning to invest.

According to today’s copy of Metro, Liverpool are already weighing up moves for players with Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo emerging on their radar.

The versatile Argentina international is said to have a £25 million release clause in his contract and it is believed that the Reds are interested in making a bid.

The 24-year-old only moved to Portugal in August 2012 following a move from Russian outfit Spartak Moscow.

Fellow Argentine Ezequiel Garay has also been linked to the Premier League in recent weeks with Manchester United rumoured to be interested in the former Real Madrid man.

But it’s Rojo that has attracted Liverpool’s scouting network and it’s sure to be a busy transfer window at Liverpool with Cardiff City’s Steven Caulker also rumoured to be of interest as they try and build a squad to challenge in next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool fans. Your poor defending throughout the season has come back to haunt you. But can Rojo tighten up the defence? Let us know your thoughts below.
