Simon Jones from Mail Online has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern with news about a possible transfer battle between Liverpool and Tottenham that has attracted the attention of most punters in the bar.
Jones claims that Brendan Rodgers could rival Spurs to sign FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah in January.
The speedy 21-year-old Egyptian is in rich form having scored six goals for his country in their World Cup qualification campaign and caught the eye with his performance against Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this season.
Speculation has indicated that Lilywhites boss Andre Villas-Boas has been tracking Salah but he reportedly wanted to monitor his progress with a view to a future move.
Basel’s £15 million price tag appears to have put off the Portuguese boss for now with Liverpool instead taking the lead for the player who has already made 20 appearances for his country.
Jones also suggests that Rodgers is putting together a deal to sign Will Hughes from Derby County in January as he tries to build a young promising squad at Anfield.
The England Under-21 international could be available for around £10 million after the Championship club admitted they may have to sell him in the New Year.
