Liverpool are set to make a move for out of favour Manchester City stars Shaun Wright-Phillips and Roque Santa Cruz as they look to turn their stuttering Premier League season around.
With City’s first team achieving great success this season, both Wright-Phillips and Santa Cruz have found themselves left out in the cold in terms of a regular starting position and Liverpool Roy Hodgson is ready to give them first team football with an £18 million bid in January for the pair.
The Reds have made a torrid start to their Premier League campaign, languishing down in the relegation zone after 7 games and Hodgson is desperate to bring in some new blood to give the whole squad a confidence boost and help ensure relegation is not on the cards this season.
Having failed to land strikers Carlton Cole and Roman Pavlyuchenko during the summer, it would seem Hodgson has set his sights of the Paraguayan Santa Cruz as the ideal partner for star striker Fernando Torres, while Wright-Phillips work rate and pace with the ball will make him a valuable asset at Liverpool and also instantly make him an Anfield fan favourite.
Although at this present time the transfer fund at Anfield is pretty much empty, with the impending departure of current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, and the arrival of new owners in the former of Boston Red Sox’s owner John Henry, it is thought that come January Hodgson will have a healthy amount of cash to improve the Liverpool squad, leaving many fans with increased optimism for the future.
