Liverpool told to up their bid for Brazilian starlet

A story linking Liverpool with various attacking midfielders has reached us near every day in the Football Transfer Tavern, and David Maddock of the Daily Mirror has stopped by to give us an update on their latest target.

Having lost out on moves for Wesley Sneijder and seemingly Thomas Ince, the Reds have turned their attention to Inter Milan’s young Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly already launched an £8 million bid for the 20-year-old – an offer that has been scoffed at by Inter officials.

Inter are looking for 12 million euro’s for the playmaker, despite him not featuring regularly for the club this season and being shipped out on loan to Espanyol last season.

Coutinho has already featured for Brazil at international level, and Rodgers views him as another piece to  the Liverpool squad he is trying to build.

A ‘number 10’ is what Liverpool fans want to see, with Joe Cole and Nuri Sahin being sold during this window, and Wesley Sneijder opting for a move to Galatasaray rather than Anfield last night.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have proved unwilling to pay over the odds for players, demonstrated in the summer with their failure to sign Clint Dempsey, and already this window with their refusal to budge on their valuation of Thomas Ince.

With this in mind, can you see the club coming back with another offer for Coutinho?
