Here in the Football Transfer Tavern our fans have stopped and looked up from their pints at the news from the Daily Mail that Liverpool and Tottenham are locked in a battle to net Brazilian international Bernard.
The exciting Atletico Mineiro man has been on the radar of Andre Villas-Boas and also Brendan Rodgers for some time now and after making the Brazil squad for the recent Confederations Cup, he has seen his stock rise even further.
Now not only are the Premier League duo ready to fight it out for the player but Porto, Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk are all throwing their weight around for the 20-year-old winger.
The asking price for the player is £20 million but it is thought that a bid of around £18 million would be accepted especially when coupled with the player’s desire to move on from Mineiro and further his career in Europe like so many Brazilian’s before him.
A major worry for both Northern Irishman Rodgers and also AVB is the fact that neither side are in the Champions League next season and that is something the 20-year-old desires – meaning that Dortmund are currently the club who look to be in pole position to land the exciting player.
Will Bernard turn out for either Liverpool or Tottenham next season or will he opt for a transfer rival? Let us know your thoughts below.
