Simon Jones from Mail Online has popped into the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon with exciting news that both Tottenham and Liverpool are battling to sign Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu on-loan for the new season.
The 19-year-old forward is the latest to emerge from Barca’s famous La Masia academy in Spain and he is already regarded as on their most promising talents.
However with the arrival of Brazilian sensation Neymar at Barcelona this summer his chances of first team football look restricted at the Camp Nou and Barcelona chiefs believe he could be suitable for a Premier League loan move with the hope of increasing his physical strength, on and off the ball.
Both Liverpool and Tottenham are now ready to move for the talented wide man as they look to bolster their squads ahead of August’s big kick-off with Spurs tactician Andre Villas-Boas thought to be leading the race.
Currently impressing with the Spanish international team at the European Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, making his mark on the tournament with two goals in their opening 4-1 victory over the USA, Deulofeu was also in fine form for Barcelona B last season with 18 goals in 33 league games.
