The Daily Mail report that a huge blow has occurred for Liverpool and Tottenham here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Shakhtar Donetsk’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to become a Borussia Dortmund player.
The highly coveted Armenian international was wanted by not only Andre Villas-Boas but also Brendan Rodgers, who had identified the player as one of his top targets this summer and will be majorly disappointed to lose out on someone he thought could really shape the future of his side and get them back fighting for the top four spots in the Premier League.
Spurs and AVB meanwhile are facing competition to land just about all of their top targets this summer and have seen Southampton join the race for Internacional forward Leandro Damiao. Despite this the North London side do have a positive to take in the form of Paulinho who looks set to be one of the brightest talents around.
Dortmund for their part were determined to land Mkhitaryan who they are paying a fee of £20 million for – and after losing Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich and facing constant speculation over the future of Robert Lewandowski – who is a major target for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho, we can’t really blame them.
Mkhitaryan will become Dortmund’s second marquee addition after the Bundesliga giants completed a deal for similarly coveted Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier this week – previously a target of Newcastle United.
We reckon few of our punters could spell Aubameyang or Mkhitaryan correctly even before the bevvies have come out!
