The Football Transfer Tavern is holding its weekly darts tournament today and one of the teams on the oche is made up of Liverpool supporters.
They have been distracted by the latest speculation making its way into the bar as the Liverpool Echo report that Reds target Martin Montoya has rejected a new contract at Barcelona.
Boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to a long-term admirer of Montoya and reports indicated that the Reds saw an offer rejected for his services during the recent transfer window.
Now the Anfield club appear to have been handed a boost in their pursuit after he knocked back the latest offer on the table from the La Liga champions, amid talk that the Reds will move again for the defender during the summer.
According to Spanish sources, the defender is frustrated with his lack of first team chances at the Camp Nou, with Montoya keen to gain regular football, thus considering plans to leave the club at the first possible opportunity.
The Reds maintain hope that the 22-year-old right back could be persuaded to make the switch to Anfield, with chief executive Ian Ayre understood to have flown out to Spain before the latest transfer window to discuss a possible deal.
It’s another transfer we’ll note as we make preparations for the busy summer months in the tavern.
