Today edition of Metro has just been dropped off at the bar, and it is notable that it contains news about a transfer disappointment for Liverpool.
The paper reports that Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit for Paris Saint-Germain star Javier Pastore, who had been linked with move to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old Argentine playmaker has today played down speculation about a possible English transfer, maintaining his stance that he is happy at PSG despite suffering a lack of game time under Laurent Blanc this term .
“All these rumours are false and have nothing to do with the reality of the situation,” he said.
“As I already said, I was the first to choose this club and I will be the last one to leave it.
“I will fight to do well at PSG. I know there are many players in my role, but I fight for a place without losing my head.”
Liverpool will have to fend off competition from a host of Italian sides, although when asked about a possible switch to Serie A, he said: “In order to meet my friends, yes, but nothing more.”
The attacking midfielder joined the Ligue 1 club in 2011 when they forked out nearly £40 million for his services from Palermo.
However he has struggled of late and Brendan Rodgers was thought to be readying a £17 million Janaury bid to lure him to Anfield.
These latest quotes appear to suggest that any offers for the Argentine playmaker would prove fruitless.
