Rafa Benitez is interested in bringing Turkey star Arda Turan to the Premier League according to a report in The Sun. The 22-year-old Galatasaray winger is one of Europe’s most highly rated young players and a move to Anfield may not be too far away.
Benitez came close to securing a deal for Turan in the summer before backing out of a move that would have cost in the region of £9million. Benitez will have to sell players to raise funds before he can make a move and the likes of Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin and Andrea Dossena are all likely to move on in January as Rafa looks to shake up his squad. Voronin has plenty of admirers in the Bundesliga after his impressive loan spell at Hertha Berlin last season while Dossena is still highly rated in his native Italy despite failing to impress in England. Babel also has his admirers across Europe as his talent is clear to see, many managers will view the flying Dutchman as worth a gamble.
Turan was impressive in Euro 2008 and has signalled that he would like a move to Anfield in the near future. His arrival would provide some much-needed width to Liverpool’s play and once funds are secured he his high on Benitez’s list of priorities. The Liverpool manager will first look to bring in a target-man to support Torres, but any funds that he has after that are likely to be used to bring in the Turkish winger.
