Liverpool supporters have been somewhat downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side only manage to draw 0-0 with West Brom at Anfield on Wednesday night, thus extending their winless home Premier League run to three matches.
Jurgen Klopp’s men had conceded late levellers to both Chelsea and Everton in their preceding two league games at Anfield, much to the frustration of our resident Liverpudlians, and Wednesday night’s stalemate with Alan Pardew’s Baggies did little to lift the gloom among those Reds fans lining up at the bar. However, many are already turning their attentions to Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth, where they don’t have overly fond memories after throwing away a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 in the corresponding fixture last season.
Thus, there are many downbeat Liverpool supporters in the Tavern at present, yet their mood could be improved if a recent report from journalist Tancredi Palmeri (via The Daily Star) is anything to go by, which suggests that the Reds have launched a bid for Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrsaljko.
The 25-year-old made the move to the Spanish capital back in 2016 and has since gone on to make 32 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side, only seven of which have come this season in a campaign riddled by injury.
And with just 18 of his 32 games for the club coming in La Liga, the Croatia international appears to be struggling to convince boss Simeone of his capabilities, and as such his future has been subject of speculation in recent times with Klopp’s Liverpool reportedly interested.
And recent reports suggest that they have upped the ante by launching an offer for the right-back, as manager Klopp seeks to bolster a backline which has conceded more goals than any other side in the Premier League’s top six.
Landlord’s verdict: Although the right-back position isn’t the most pressing concern for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Nathaniel Clyne’s sustained spell on the sidelines seems to have forced the Reds chief into the market for another option.
And that option appears to be Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrsaljko, a 25-year-old Croatia international who has managed just seven first team appearances for the La Liga outfit this term, and just 32 since making the move to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2016.
And with the right-back appearing not to be first choice at the Wanda Metropolitano, his future seems uncertain, and as such Liverpool are seeking to exploit that by reportedly launching a bid for the 25-year-old.
And given the Reds’ defensive struggles in recent times, this news is likely to be welcomed by our resident Liverpool fans.
