This summer will witness the retirement of Liverpool great Jamie Carragher and in the Football Transfer Tavern there is a conversation going on among Reds fans who are debating who exactly should be signed to replace him in central defence.
One name who been a mentioned a few times is Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori and speculation has hotted up today with Lee Bryan from Mail Online confirming that Brendan Rodgers has revived his interest in the young Portuguese ace.
The 20-year-old is one of the most promising young defenders in Europe and the versatile players who can also play as a full back as opposed to centrally would be available for a bargain price during the summer.
Despite being raised in Portugal, Ilori was actually born in London to an English father and a move back to England could suit his development after he successfully broke through into the Sporting Lisbon first team this season.
The Portuguese Under-20 international recently signed a contract extension at the Jose Alvalade until 2015 and that could see his price increase with French sides Paris Saint-Germain, Toulouse and Lyon thought to be monitoring his progress although he could be still be available for around the £2 million mark.
Will Liverpool bring Ilori to Anfield this summer? Rate this rumour below.
