According to German outlet Sport Bild, Liverpool have held talks with Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 18-year-old has been linked with Bayern Munich most of this month, with many expecting him to make a £35m move to south Germany. The Blues have offered him a new contract in return, and have played him more frequently to try and keep hold of him.
The Bundesliga is the emerging place for young English talent, as it is a chance for them to play regularly in a competitive league. Jadon Sancho is a glowing example of this, as the 18-year-old winger has six league goals and seven assists for Borussia Dortmund this season.
Therefore, it seems hard to believe that Liverpool would be able to offer Hudson-Odoi more playing time at Anfield than he currently does at Chelsea. We have already seen this season how little time Dominic Solanke received- a player bought from Chelsea- and with Sadio Mané, Mo Salah and even Xherdan Shaqiri at the club, Hudson-Odoi may face a similar amount of time on the bench, or even less.
Then again, if Liverpool can offer him more game time, this would be a huge coup. Not only would this deprive their Champions League opponents Bayern from a new signing, but it makes a massive statement as to their status in England. If they can lure one of Chelsea’s most promising players from Stamford Bridge, it suddenly puts them in a position of much more power than The Blues.
If Liverpool can offer Hudson-Odoi what he wants, they must make a move for this.
