Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been drowning their sorrows this evening after the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona was confirmed today.
With £75 million set to be arriving in the Reds’ bank account shortly, Brendan Rodgers will have funds to reinvest in his squad for next season.
Chelsea are demanding £8 million be paid to them if Ryan Bertrand is to be a Liverpool player next season, according to The Express.
Liverpool have already had a £6 million bid for the twice capped England international rejected, although they are expected to return with a revised offer.
As appears to be the norm these days, Tottenham are also set to rival the Reds for one of their top transfer targets, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to convince Bertrand to swap West London for North London.
Bertrand has been sent out on loan six times during his Chelsea career, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
With Ashley Cole having been released this summer, some punters expected he may be given more first team opportunities, but Jose Mourinho has continued to chase alternative targets, with Cesar Azpilicueta the established first choice last season.
Liverpool fans. Would you like to see your club sign Bertrand for £8 million? Or is £10 million-rated Ben Davies from Swansea City a better alternative? Let us know your thoughts below.
