The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are keen for their side to impress in the Champions League next season…
It has been far too long since the Reds impressed in Europe, with a transitional period following their victory in 2005, but under Jurgen Klopp the foundations are certainly beginning to get laid.
Last year was a very good one domestically, but our landlord is convinced that with Europe back on the table next season, poor preparation could seriously cost the Reds.
Indeed, the only way to succeed will be to not only increase the quantity of the players within the squad, but also the quality of the players – with Liverpool needing to sign a couple of big names to really prove their aspirations.
According to the Mirror, the club are looking to do just that, with publication noting that the Reds are willing to spend big to land RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer – with the midfielder named as Jurgen Klopp’s primary target this summer.
Keita, of course, was a key part of the RB Leipzig team last year that really impressed in the Bundesliga. Having an N’Golo Kante-like effect for the German side, his defensive qualities were vitally important in an increasingly competitive league – and he would likely have the same effect as Liverpool were he to make the move.
Of course, any deal remains some way off, but this report has certainly pleased the fans in the Transfer Tavern. They want their side to improve this summer, and Keita would certainly fit the bill.
