Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are devastated following their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League – our punters are still proud of what their side have accomplished this year.
An early injury to Mohamed Salah got the final off to the worst possible start before Loris Karius threw the ball directly at Karim Benzema resulting in the first goal of the game. Gareth Bale cancelled out Sadio Mane’s equaliser in spectacular fashion before Karius dropped a long shot into his own net to wrap up proceedings.
Salah’s departure completed changed the game in Madrid’s favour. The Egyptian looked sharp and dangerous with Marcelo committing himself to the attack; it looked like he would get opportunities. Replaced by Adam Lallana, Liverpool had just one source of pace in Mane, allowing Madrid to double up and nullify his threat. Without their favoured forward three, Liverpool doesn’t look like the same team.
Adding quality options in attack must be a priority in the summer, someone who can fill in for Mane or Salah on the wing. One option could be Real Sociedad winger – Mikel Oyarzabal – who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season, scoring 12 goals and notching seven assists in La Liga. He doesn’t have blistering pace but has an excellent technical ability which creates space for his team-mates and himself.
He can be used on either wing or as a number 10 making him the perfect option for Jurgen Klopp.
