The Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern had high hopes for him…
In the modern game, very few young players make it through the tough and rigorous process of pursuing a career at a top flight club.
Chelsea have become renowned in recent years as talent wasters, with tens of young players released on a near-yearly basis after struggling to make the grade at the European powerhouse.
Liverpool have been slightly more fortunate in recent years, and have brought players like Raheem Sterling through the club’s youth system and turned them into incredible players – but not all players take the same path.
The loan system has it’s advantages and disadvantages – but clubs value it highly, and Liverpool have seemingly seen fit to utilise it this season.
As per Football Insider, Liverpool youngster Tom Brewitt is poised to join League One side Chesterfield on a trial – with a view to a loan move in the second-half of the season. Crucially, no long-term deal is mentioned.
Brewitt is a talented young defender that the Liverpool brass seemingly have high hopes for, given his role throughout the club’s developmental system in recent years.
He captained the under-18 side at one point, and has spent numerous sessions with Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool first team in recent months.
Whilst not a player as attention grabbing as someone like Sterling, Brewitt gets on with the job – and is excellent at what he does.
