It’s fair to say the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are largely delighted with their squad and remain hopeful they can rediscover the sort of form that made them believe they could challenge for the Premier League title.
While the idea of bringing in some big-money arrival during the New Year sales is obviously a mouth-watering one for our Merseyside locals, the Reds in the bar are pretty happy with their lot and believe Jurgen Klopp is building a side based on more of the sum of their parts.
Which is why reports in the Daily Mail have been met with little more than shrugged shoulders. They claim Anfield star Mamadou Sakho, who hasn’t played all season, has another potential suitor in the shape of Crystal Palace.
The Frenchman has been linked with the likes of Southampton and Sevilla after falling out with Klopp and is understood to be valued at £20m by the Kop titans. Eagles chief Sam Allardyce is understood to be on the lookout for more experience in his ranks and has reportedly cast keen eyes over the 26-year-old’s situation at Liverpool.
While a number of solid performances during their cup runs last term saw the former Paris Saint-Germain ace adored by the Reds in the Tavern, the club have moved on and his leaving would have little impact on first-team affairs.
