As if dealing with the potential exit of star man Philippe Coutinho wasn’t bad enough, the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been worried into thinking Jurgen Klopp could lose another midfielder this summer.
Indeed, our local Kopites have been concerned about reports linking Emre Can with a move to Juventus of late. While the German international isn’t a regular starter, the notion of losing the 23-year-old ahead of their upcoming Champions League campaign has proved to be a worrying one.
So, reports from the Daily Mail have gone down well today. They claim the former Bayern Munich youngster is now likely to commit to the cause at Anfield, despite interest from Turin. Can is currently entering the final year of his deal on Merseyside, though is now reportedly expected to pen a new contract with the club he joined in the summer of 2015.
For their part, Juventus are now apparently increasing their interest in PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi as they look to move on from Can in their own recruitment process.
Emre Can may not be as important as the aforementioned Coutinho to our local Liverpool lot, though keeping a big squad ahead of a return to the Champions League is a priority for them. With that in mind, these reports have proved good news.
Last season, Can may have flattered to deceive for swathes of it, though proved with his stunner against Watford that he can come up with moments of genius. Indeed, his versatility could also prove useful, with the German also able to operate as a right-back, should injuries take their toll.
He still has time to develop, so perhaps keeping him on Merseyside is the best thing Jurgen Klopp can do right now.
