A £2.5M Bid That Should Delight The Anfield Faithful

Liverpool fans rejoice! Christina Poulsen is actually wanted by someone. Yes I never thought I would hear those words either let alone type them but it’s true. The misfit is set to be offered an escape route from his Anfield nightmare by Italian side Udinese.

The Serie A side are looking to replace the outgoing Gokhan Inler, set to depart the Bianconeri in the summer, and the Danish 31-year-old has been touted to fill the void.  The defensive midfielder has played in Italy before with Juventus, the side ex-Reds manager Roy Hodgson brought Poulsen from for £4.5m only last summer.

The Danish international has failed to impress at Anfield this season and is seen as a highlight of the decline the Liverpool team suffered under Roy Hodgson. Despite the Dane being one of Hodgson’s own signings, he still failed to become a first team regular. It became clear very quickly that the pace of the Premiership would be too much for the experienced international.

Once Hodgson was sacked there was little hope for Poulsen and while Dalglish has used him on a couple of occasions, the Scot has preferred to use Jay Spearing in the central midfield role.

Poulsen, who has 81 caps for Denmark, has made only 12 Premier League appearances this campaign and could be offloaded for £2.5m. I doubt many fans will be sad to see the player go while some may even break out into wild celebrations.

Poulsen is one of many Liverpool players that will be offloaded in the summer. Fellow Hodgson signing Paul Koncheskey is also set to leave in the summer, following the likes of David Ngog, Maxi Rodriguez and Alberto Aquiliani out the exit door.
