‘A special player’, ‘Thank the gods’ – Liverpool fans on Twitter find new Anfield hero

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased to see their side claim a routine 3-0 Champions League victory in Group E last night.

After the 7 goal demolition of NK Maribor in Slovenia in the reverse fixture two weeks ago, Liverpool fans could have been forgiven for expecting a first-half goal frenzy. However, Maribor arrived on Merseyside with a clear game plan which disrupted Liverpool’s flow in the first-half. The Slovenian underdogs who are joint-top of the Prva Liga after 14 games, frustrated Liverpool with their defensive set up that was clearly designed to prevent the events from 2 weeks ago from repeating themselves.

Despite Maribor’s stubborn first-half resistance, the deadlock was broken shortly after the break when Mohammed Salah In the 48th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold picked out Mohammed Salah with a pin-point cross whose deft-flick carried the ball beyond Jasmin Handanovic into the Maribor goal.

The assist from Arnold was a real gem of a cross, and his impact on the game has generated plenty of interest from supporters on Twitter who were swift to praise his performance.

Arnold has certainly given Klopp something to think about in his team selection for Liverpool’s forthcoming Premier League fixtures.
