According to a recent report from Liga Financial, Liverpool are interested in a move for attacker Thorgan Hazard. The 25-year-old currently plays his football for Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach and has done so since leaving Chelsea back in 2015, with his excellent recent form in Germany attracting interest from the Premier League.

And reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, currently sat at the summit of the English top-flight, are eyeing up a move for the Belgium international, the addition of which would finally rid the Merseyside giants of fellow attacker Lazar Markovic.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, 24-year-old Markovic made the move to Anfield back in 2014 as ex-boss Brendan Rodgers sought to improve his ranks after their title near-miss the season before, with the Serbia international having impressed at Benfica to suggest that he could bolster their forward ranks.

Yet the winger has failed to make a meaningful impact at Liverpool in scoring just three times in 34 senior appearances for the Reds, with his tally of zero appearances under Klopp this time round further underlining his lowly position in the pecking order.

And with several loan spells littering his time on Merseyside, it’s pretty clear that Markovic is struggling for much of a future at Liverpool - and he’d be struggling even more were Klopp to seal a deal for Monchengladbach’s Hazard in the near future.

The 25-year-old, brother of Chelsea superstar Eden, left the Blues for the Bundesliga back in 2015 having failed to appear at all for the West London outfit, and he has since shown them what they were missing out on by excelling in Germany with Monchengladbach.

The Belgium international, who has played 11 times for his country this year, has scored 44 goals and laid on 39 assists in just 163 appearances for the German outfit, 11 goals and seven assists of which have come in only 16 games so far this term to suggest that he is playing the best football of his career.

And with adeptness at playing down either flank, Hazard would give Klopp another excellent option in his forward ranks, at the same all but bringing to an end Markovic’s faint hopes of making the grade at Anfield.

Clearly, the 24-year-old Serbian star is struggling as it is to convince Klopp of his attacking capabilities, let alone were the Liverpool boss to lure another hugely talented attacker in Hazard to Anfield - up against the likes of Hazard, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Xherdan Shaqiri, Markovic has very little chance.

As such, with the Reds seemingly keen on the 25-year-old, adding him to the squad in the near future would finally rid them of Markovic, who has turned out to be a shocking signing from former manager Rodgers.
