Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2009 courtesy of a 5-0 aggregate success over Porto on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the return leg at Anfield having all but secured the place in the last eight, with a hat-trick from Sadio Mane as well as strikes from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealing a 5-0 first leg lead three weeks ago. And the Reds got the job done on Merseyside on Tuesday courtesy of a 0-0 draw, thus booking their spot in the quarter-finals for the first time in nine years, and very much in contention for a first Champions League crown since 2005.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be encouraged by a recent report from Le Sport 10 (via talkSPORT), which suggests that an agreement is close with Thomas Lemar over a summer move to Anfield.
The 22-year-old played a vital part in Monaco’s incredible success last season, bagging 14 goals and laying on 17 assists to help Leonardo Jardim’s men to the Ligue 1 title, as well as the last four of the Champions League.
And while things haven’t gone as well for the France international this term, and indeed for the club, the forward has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Arsenal and indeed Liverpool reportedly keen on the 22-year-old.
And recent reports suggest that the Reds are closing on an agreement in principle to land Lemar this summer, as Klopp eyes further attacking reinforcements to sustain a Premier League title challenge next term.
Yet, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can indeed secure this big summer deal.
Landlord’s verdict: Thomar Lemar was outstanding for Monaco last term, and while this season hasn’t been as good for the 22-year-old, he remains a supremely talented forward and one many sides would want in their team.
And Liverpool are one club who have reportedly been linked with the France international for some time now, and recent reports suggest that they are closing on an agreement in principle to land the forward in the summer.
And were the Reds indeed to land this big summer deal, it would surely strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s attacking ranks ahead of an expected Premier League title push next time round.
