Liverpool’s surge towards their inaugural Premier League success might’ve been hindered over the past few weeks, but the race is far from over.
Indeed, the Reds hold a narrow advantage over Manchester City and with injured players returning to action, their squad will get more packed.
One of the players to return is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who hasn’t been able to play this season after suffering a horrific knee injury against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals in April. Reverted to a more central role by Jurgen Klopp, Ox enjoyed impressive form for the Reds last season, scoring 5 goals and assisting 7 in all competitions and stealing the show in multiple big matches.
Klopp indicated that Chamberlain is recovering much better and was even included in their Champions League squad for the knockout stages and the England international man will even join his teammates (as per the Daily Mail) on their warm-weather training camp this week. There’s a growing chance he returns late next month and plays a role in Liverpool’s season finale and that could provide the sort of lift so desperately required on Merseyside.
Chamberlain can definitely provide new options for Klopp. An energetic midfielder, who not only works hard into reclaiming possession but often creates and scores goals with sheer persistence, can provide a fine balance in their game. Chamberlain’s versatility and ability to play anywhere in midfield or the wings made him an asset for Klopp.
The midfielder’s presence is being missed in the business end of the season, with Liverpool’s stuttering midfield causing them issues. While Klopp will protect him coming off such a lengthy layoff, there’s no doubt the Ox will play a part in giving his side a boost as the season draws to a thrilling end.
