Liverpool took home all three points in the Merseyside derby thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Divock Origi.

The entertaining affair looked set to end in a draw after both sides missed chances to break the deadlock. Deep into injury time, a long Trent Alexander-Arnold cross was scuffed by Virgil van Dijk and forced Jordan Pickford into action. However, the England number one inadvertently allowed Origi to nod home the winner and send Anfield into raptures.

Eager to celebrate the memorable victory, Jurgen Klopp raced onto the famous turf to celebrate with summer signing – Alisson Becker. At one point in August, it seemed that Loris Karius would remain Liverpool’s number one despite his inexcusable errors in the Champions League final. However, the German jumped at the chance to land the Brazilian from Roma for a then world-record fee and Karius departed for Besiktas on loan.

Despite his impressive showings in the Serie A, spending roughly £68m (as per BBC Sport) was still a massive risk but the Brazil international has already repaid his price tag during his short stay on Merseyside. Alisson’s arrival has transformed the Liverpool defence – the Reds have conceded just five goals in the Premier League all season. After a blunder against Leicester, Alisson has not put a foot wrong, putting in excellent performances against both Paris St Germain and Everton. The 26-year-old pulled off a world-class stop to deny Andre Gomes opening the scoring in the first half and also made a crucial save as Theo Walcott raced through.

Liverpool fans finally have the world-class goalkeeper that they have been crying out for. Alisson will only get better as his understanding with his defence and life in England improves. His performances so far suggest paying the mammoth fee to prise him from Rome was well worth it.

The Reds' FSG owners haven't always been supported on Merseyside, though it's hard to deny them any praise for backing their man.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?
