The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are undoubtedly focused on the here and now, though that won’t stop them giving a bit of stick to former players who they think deserve little more than exactly that.
Well, there’s no one they enjoy doing that more to than a certain Michael Owen.
The BT Sport pundit was a Liverpool legend in the making and on course to become the Reds’ record goalscorer prior to his exit for Real Madrid in 2004 after being forced out of the club under Rafa Benitez. While few would have begrudged him a move to the Spanish capital at that stage in his career, the fact he would go on to join bitter rivals Manchester United years later is unforgivable on Merseyside.
I've been reading the usual hateful messages about me playing for Man Utd.
Once again and for the avoidance of doubt:
I love @LFC and before every move since I left I tried to go back. It never happened and so I had to continue my career by signing for other clubs.

Owen won a Premier League title with the Red Devils, though has never been forgiven by those who used to adore him, something the 37-year-old took issue with on Twitter. He declared his love for the club and claimed he did try and return, only for a second coming to fail.
With that in mind, here’s a look at how Liverpool fans on social media reacted.
Loves Liverpool, signs for the enemy. You’re a comedian! Make someone like Ian Callaghan or Roy Evans ambassador @LFC

Sound. Do the decent thing then & step down from your club ambassador role. Fans will never accept your decision to join Man Utd. Anyone with any affinity to Liverpool would know that.
