Arsenal’s ‘advanced talks’ for reported target could be scuppered by heavyweights

With the Arsenal fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern still not entirely convinced about Arsene Wenger’s standing at the club, these are relatively nervous times for the Gunners.

A top four finish is far from certain in north London and many of our punters are fed up of discussing potential replacements for Wenger, fearing a situation akin to the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013.

However, reports from the Daily Express have sparked food for thought amongst our drinkers as they start to truly imagine what life after Le Prof is like. They claim top brass at the Emirates Stadium are prepared to make Massimiliano Allegri their number one candidate to replace the Frenchman, with ‘advanced talks’ reportedly held.

Still, the Premier League giants could apparently face a battle to lure the Juventus coach away from Turin in the shape of Barcelona. Following their thumping at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, serious doubt has been cast over Luis Enrique’s future of late.

The 49-year-old is understood to have a close relationship with Barca sporting director Ariedo Braida, who is said to have sounded out his plans for next season, having proved a monumental success with Bianconeri since taking from Antonio Conte in 2014.

Having lost out to the Blaugrana many times in the transfer market over the years, our north London locals fear a similar fate on the managerial front.

Would Allegri be a good replacement for Wenger? Let us know below…
