Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be tearing their hair out after learning that Adam Lallana will be out for an extended period of time, having just starting to make his way back from a serious injury.
The Sun is reporting that the former Southampton midfielder suffered a groin injury during their defeat to Manchester United at the weekend and is now expected to miss the next two-and-a-half weeks. Indeed, Lallana came on as a second-half substitute and played 28 minutes, making it a largely frustrating year for him. He returned from his first problem back in November, however, he did not make his first appearance for the Reds until New Year’s Day.
The injury means he will miss out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their friendlies with Holland and Italy later this month. In fact, the blow means Lallana will not have featured for the Three Lions this season ahead of their World Cup tournament, although he is still considered to be selected should he be fit.
Should his recovery process go to plan, the midfielder could be back in action for Liverpool ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first-leg.
Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be frustrated with the midfielder’s latest injury setback, as Lallana could be one of their most influential players on the pitch when playing. With Philippe Coutinho having left in January, the Reds really could do with someone to pick holes in opposition defences, something Lallana can do with relative ease.
