Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are running out of nails to nervously chew on as they anticipate a stern challenge between now and the end of the transfer window.
Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool following interest from Barcelona, who have an abundance of cash to spend following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee, and the majority of punters don’t fancy the Reds’ chances of keeping the Brazilian.
Liverpool can expect to earn a massive sum of money for Coutinho’s services but the loss of a key-player could have a decisive effect on Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. However, landing Barcelona man Ivan Rakitic in return could make a deal more appealing.
The Croatian midfielder has an abundance of experience of success and would certainly improve the Reds’ midfield, which doesn’t look as talented as some of their rivals in the Premier League this season and they could find themselves in a difficult situation in Europe.
Liverpool’s squad certainly lacks the pedigree of serial winners and Rakitic would add that to the side, aiding the club in their push to establish themselves as contenders for the major honours within domestic and European football.
The fact of the matter is that Liverpool are fighting a losing battle in their quest to keep Coutinho and Klopp now needs to focus on getting the very best deal possible for the Brazilian- and landing a player as part of a sale would quell the risk of having to spend an audacious sum for a replacement.
