Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted for academy man, Liam Millar, as he received his first international call-up to play for Canada this week. The news was broken to fans via the Liverpool website.
Many of the Kopites who have been propping up our bar may not have heard of the 18-year-old who turns out as an academy player for the Anfield club. However, they’ll have a good chance to see their man on the 24th March when Canada play New Zealand in an international friendly.
Canadian football fans will be hoping Liam Millar is the missing piece to the puzzle as they’ve only ever managed to qualify for one World Cup, back in 1986, a whopping 13 years before their latest new call-up was born. Millar’s scored nine goals and registered nine assists in 28 appearances for Liverpool’s academy and Premier League 2 side’s this season. Canadian’s watching the 18-year-old will hope he can recreate his form internationally in the coming years.
Taking all of that into account, here’s our resident Red’s verdict on the youngster’s call-up:
As a Canadian living in Liverpool I can honestly say – this is the best thing to happen to our national team. We’ve been rubbish on the internt’l stage/CONCACAF. Hope you inspire your teammates on to greater things (don’t s**t on ‘em if it goes wrong) and enjoy the experience.
