In what is an an excellent Liverpool team, there is just one big issue German boss Jurgen Klopp and Tom Werner didn't fix for the club during the summer.

Liverpool have had an excellent start to the season, after strengthening in the summer window. Naby Keita, who signed for £48m, has been a revelation in Jurgen Klopp's midfield. The Anfield outfit overcame West Ham 4-0, before visiting bogey-club Crystal Palace on Monday night, and coming out of the fixture with maximum points.

With the attacking talent at Liverpool, featuring the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool are going to be a real threat to any defence in Europe. They also have the creative talents of the aforementioned Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson, meaning they create plenty of chances in the vast majority of their fixtures.

There is just one big issue that Tom Werner and Jurgen Klopp have failed to fix at the Anfield outfit. A perfect centre-back partner for Virgil Van Dijk, could really have taken Liverpool to the next level both domestically and in Europe. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have set the foundations for most clubs in Europe, that defenders with real ball-playing abilities are what is needed in the modern game to dominate matches and get results. With it being reported in the summer that Bayern Munich were willing to listen to offers for Jerome Boateng, Werner and Klopp should have moved to bring the German international to Merseyside. His star-quality defensive abilities could have added a fantastic strength in depth to the Liverpool back-line, with Dejan Lovren also at the club. Signing Boateng would have ensured that the Liverpool defence was watertight, even if Dejan Lovren or Virgil Van Dijk suffered injuries.

Liverpool are still well placed to have an excellent season this term despite their vulnerabilities in the centre-back area. However, Klopp and Werner may live to regret not moving to bring Jerome Boateng to Anfield.
